About the game

General information...

The game "Sea battle" helps to distract from everyday worries and spend time in sea battles, "fighting" with the Opponent on the field in the "cage".

Your field and the Opponent's field looks like a square of 100 cells (10 cells horizontally and 10 cells vertically).

    Each squadron (Yours and Opponent) has ten ships:
  • one 4-masted ship consists of 4 cells located side by side on the same line;
  • two ships with 3 masts, consist of 3 cells located side by side on the same line;
  • three ships 2-masted, consist of 2 cells located side by side on the same line;
  • four ships are single-masted, consist of one cell.

The ships of the squadron do not touch each other.

When you start the game, the program itself places the ships in your field and in the Opponent's field. You can change the placement of ships in your field.

When the device is oriented vertically, a small copy of your field and an image of the ship are located above the Opponent's field. During your turn, the opponent's ship is displayed, and during the opponent's turn, your ship is displayed. At the moment of a miss, disappearance, damage or destruction of the ship, the image of the ship changes.

With horizontal orientation, your field and the Opponent's field are located in the same horizontal plane. Between the fields there is a real time clock. Above each field, a scheme of a squadron of ten ships is displayed. The destroyed ship is crossed out. With sufficient vertical screen resolution, next to the squadron diagram there are images of the state of the ships.

An opponent for you may be the program "Sinbad the Sailor" or "Sea Wolf", which differ in the strategy of warfare.

The "Flying Dutchman" option turns the fourth single-masted ship in the Rival squadron into a "ghost ship", which requires up to five hits to destroy. On the scheme of the squadron, the "ghost ship" is marked with a blue background.

At the time of the flight of the core to the location of the "ghost ship", the ship, in an invisible way for you, moves to a free place that you have not fired at yet. Such movements can be up to 5 times. In the event of another hit, if it is the 5th hit or there is no free space to which the ship can move, the "ghost ship" is destroyed.

The moment of a shot, damage, destruction of the ship and the moment of a miss are accompanied by sound and visual effects. Each of these events has its own unique sound and visual effect.

Sound, color effects, and comment output can be enabled or disabled.

A ship hit is marked with a red "cross" in the corresponding cell, and a miss is marked with an orange "splash". A destroyed ship is highlighted with a red frame. Hitting the location of the "ghost ship", which managed to "hide" and change its position, is marked with a blue "splash" and the message "Hidden".

Shots are fired alternately: first you, until the moment of a miss, then the Opponent. When you hit the location of the "ghost ship" the move is yours. The first one to destroy all enemy ships wins.

After the end of the game, all the opponent's ships are displayed on his field. "Ghost ship" is highlighted with a blue frame.

Choosing an opponent...

Your opponent is a microprocessor device with a program embedded in it, hereinafter referred to as "Opponent". Before the start of the battle, the "Rival" randomly, unknown to you, places the ships in his field. The location of your squadron for the "Rival" is unknown.

Your opponent may be the program "Sinbad the Sailor" or "Sea Wolf".

The strategy of conducting the battle "Sinbad the Sailor" is to determine the coordinates of the shot randomly. At the moment of impact (when your ship is damaged), it determines the direction of the ship's location (horizontal or vertical) by firing around the place of damage to the ship in a randomly determined direction. When the direction of the ship's location is determined, "Sinbad the Sailor" fires shots along the line of the ship's location.

The difference between the strategy of the "Sea Wolf" and the "Sinbad the Sailor" is that after determining the coordinates of the shot, adjacent free fields are additionally controlled to search for the ship with the largest number of masts. If such a ship cannot be in this area, then the coordinates of the shot are recalculated. First, there is a search for a 4-masted ship. After its destruction, the search for 3-masted ships, etc. For example, if there is a search for a three-masted ship, then the shot occurs only in the place where there are free fields in which a three-masted ship can be located.

Placing ships...

The way ships are placed is random. You can change the location of the ships of your squadron by clicking the "Reset" button, which is located under your field. By pressing the "Reset" button several times, you can choose the appropriate placement of ships for you.

You can separately change the placement of your ship. To do this, you need to select the ship by pressing your finger, and then press your finger again to the place where you want to move it. To change the orientation of the ship to the opposite, you must double-click on the ship. Rotation is carried out "clockwise". The ship can only be moved to free cells.
